I surrender to not-knowing
In my paintings I explore the space between inner life and landscape.
Fascinated by the cycle of life I remain in awe of the interconnectedness of all things.
Human behavior also serves as a source of inspiration. What do we choose to reveal and what remains hidden? Our vulnerabilities are often concealed masking reality. But what is reality?
Layer upon layer an image emerges in which traces of earlier stories remain perceptible. Often suggestive, with a subtle melancholic undercurrent, the paint searches for form. I enjoy working with variation in painterly interventions: fine and bold brushstrokes alternate and I frequently work directly with my hands, scratching into underlying layers or applying paint paste-rich with my fingertips.
Playfully, I investigate what painting can be, continuously seeking a balance between order and chaos. Until the story unfolds or a feeling is fully expressed.
My studio is located in a former school building in Breda in The Netherlands. The works developed quietly over many years, only now being shared publicly. I studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, followed by a specialization in painting.
